ALIM is dedicated to empowering Muslims through education. ALIM provides substantive knowledge in all relevant aspects of Islamic Sciences but goes beyond these basic building blocks and teaches critical thinking intertwined with the elements of true Muslim character as applied to these subjects. This leads to basic Islamic Literacy which allows for the development of empowered Muslims through meaningful discourse and true intellectual and spiritual development.



Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Operations Executive (OE) will have overall operational responsibility for ALIM’s staff, programs, philanthropy, and execution of its mission. S/he will initially develop deep knowledge of ALIM’s unique field, core programs, operations, history, core scholars and business plans. The Operations Executive of ALIM will be highly organized with a proven track record of successfully managing multiple priorities, projects, and stakeholders simultaneously. Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience in social networking and web-based technology is a strong plus.



Leadership & Management:

  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence – especially ALIM’s flagship Summer Program, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals
  • Actively engage and energize ALIM’s volunteers, board members, ALIMni, partnering organizations, and funders
  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors: serve as ex-officio of each committee, seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for both ongoing operations as well as new growth opportunities
  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain ALIM’s staff. Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents


Staff Management

  • Manage organizational structure and staff to execute the strategic plan
  • Establish clear performance expectations and corporate scorecard with staff and communicate regular progress to Board
  • In collaboration with the Chair:
    • Define job responsibilities, recruit staff, supervise staff and hold accountable to established goals
    • Promote an organizational culture that practices core values


Board Management

  • Set tone and direction for management relationship with the Board of Trustees
  • Develop and refine, as needed, policies and procedures to ensure good governance, collaborating with the Chair
  • Assist Board members in recruiting new members
  • Manage planning for and implementation of Board meetings, collaborating with the Chair


Financial Management & Fundraising

  • Ensure effective use of financial resources and expand resources
  • Manage staff development of budget requests and projections
  • Prepare annual budget, collaborating with the Chair
  • Provide quarterly budget reporting, including forecasts
  • Manage financial resources within approved annual budgets
  • Develop and implement a Resource Development Strategy and Plan, collaborating with the Chair
  • Identify, network, establish and make asks from major gift donors as well as grants through grant writing
  • Develop and implement plan to create and effectively utilize ALIMNI database (as donors and volunteers)
  • Mobilize and hold accountable, Scholar In Residence (SIR), trustees and scholars to support active fundraising and meeting approved and established targets


Communications & External Relations Management

  • Improve communications and outreach
  • Develop and maintain a broad network of key relationships with ALIMNI and potential donors, in collaboration with the Chair
  • Oversee timely updating of website, including development of new content
  • Oversee management of social media initiatives using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google+ and LinkedIn



The OE will be thoroughly committed to ALIM’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:

  • At least five years of management experience, especially in non-profit organizations; track record of effectively leading regionally and/or nationally scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
